About Me

ABOUT THEOROSE ELIKPLIM DZINEKU

Journalist, Doctoral Student Researcher

I am a researcher, and lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Media Arts and Communication. I specialize in New Media, bringing my passion for technology and communication into the classroom. Aside from that, I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. at Kent State University, where my research dives into the fascinating intersection of Journalism, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies and Ethics. I’m all about exploring how tech is changing the way we tell stories, share news, and communicate in this digital age. But my work doesn’t stop in the classroom, I am also involved in a number of exciting initiatives aimed at improving our digital world. For example, I volunteer with the Internet Society Foundation, contributing to projects on Internet governance and online safety. Plus, I teach others about encryption through the E-learning team, helping people understand how to protect their privacy and stay safe online. I am passionate about equipping people with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate today’s digital world with confidence.

Research & Teaching

When I am not teaching or researching, I am publishing on important digital rights issues. You can find my work on platforms like the Association for Progressive Communicators (APC), Citinewsroom.com, Joyonline.com, ResearchGate, and Google Scholar. I use these platforms to tackle important topics like privacy, digital rights, and encryption, contributing to conversations that affect everyone in this increasingly digital world. My passion for making the digital world better doesn’t stop there. I founded Digispace Africa, a non-profit dedicated to promoting digital literacy and advocacy across the continent. Through this organization, I am working to ensure African voices are heard and included in global conversations about technology. I am also an ambassador for the Internet Women’s Association (IWA), where I am collaborating with women around the world to bridge the gender gap in tech. I am a 2019 ECOWAS Fellow in Internet Governance, a 2022 ISOC Youth Ambassador, and an ICANN 79 NexGen recipient. These honors highlight my dedication to shaping a safer, more inclusive internet for everyone.

Outside of my professional life, I am known mostly for my love for coffee, and my enthusiasm for yoga and brainstorming new ideas—my curious and adventurous spirit always driving me forward. Aside from my addiction to coffee, I am passionate about photography, love to travel, and am committed to mentoring young people. I am a strong advocate for youth involvement in tech and believe young people should have a say in how the future of the internet is shaped. I am also an advocate for encryption, online safety, and building trust in digital spaces. With my drive and dedication, I am set to become a leading voice in the global conversation about how we can use technology in ethical, inclusive ways.
